About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Apigee Architect / Designer with strong hands-on expertise in API management, development and security. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and managing secure, scalable API solutions using Google Apigee and relevant Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.

This is a demanding technical project requiring a confident, independent professional who can take ownership of API solutions, implement complex API policies and ensure integrations meet security and performance requirements.

Working Pattern: Sunday–Thursday, with Friday and Saturday off.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain API proxies using Google Apigee.

• Configure and implement Apigee policies to support API security, traffic management and request and response processing.

• Implement authentication and authorisation mechanisms, including OAuth 2.0 and JSON Web Tokens (JWT).

• Design and manage secure RESTful APIs and SOAP-based integrations.

• Apply API security standards and best practices, including mutual TLS (mTLS).

• Leverage relevant Google Cloud Platform services to support API management and integration requirements.

• Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to define API architecture and translate requirements into effective solutions.

• Support API testing, troubleshooting, performance optimisation and issue resolution.

• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated deployment and API lifecycle management.

• Use Git for version control and maintain clear technical documentation.

• Work independently to deliver technical solutions within a demanding project environment.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience with Google Apigee.

• Solid experience as an Apigee Architect, Designer or Developer.

• Strong practical experience in API proxy development and Apigee policy configuration.

• Hands-on expertise with OAuth 2.0, JWT and API authentication and authorisation.

• Strong understanding of Google Cloud Platform services relevant to API management.

• Extensive knowledge of RESTful APIs, SOAP and API integration principles.

• Experience implementing API security standards, including OAuth 2.0 and mutual TLS (mTLS).

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.

• Experience using Git and version control best practices.

• Ability to work independently, manage technical challenges and deliver within demanding project timelines.

• Strong English communication skills.

What We're Looking For

A hands-on Apigee specialist with strong architectural and technical capabilities who can take ownership of complex API management requirements. The ideal candidate will have practical experience designing and developing secure APIs, configuring Apigee policies and working with Google Cloud Platform services.

Candidates must be comfortable working the Sunday–Thursday schedule, with Friday and Saturday as days off, and communicating effectively in English.
